OpenPod Privacy Policy

Updated September 12, 2026. Current app behavior and optional preview services are distinguished below.

Who operates OpenPod

OpenPod is operated by Moruk LLC. Questions about this policy can be sent to hi@moruk.co.

Information you keep in the app

OpenPod does not require an account, login, email address, or other profile information. The app stores your library, feed URLs, subscriptions, playback progress, podcast cache, sorting choices, preferences, and OpenPod Originals metadata locally on your device so the app can remember them between launches. You can remove this information by removing feeds or clearing the app's local data through your device settings.

Requests to podcast publishers

When you add or refresh a feed, OpenPod requests the RSS feed, artwork, episode media, and subtitle URLs from the publishers or hosting providers named by those feeds. Audio and video may be streamed directly from those providers. Those providers receive the network information ordinarily included with an HTTP request, such as your IP address, device and browser or app user agent, request time, and requested URL. Their own privacy policies govern their processing. OpenPod does not control or determine what publishers put in their feeds.

Updates and service providers

The Android app can check for over-the-air updates through Expo's update service at u.expo.dev. That request can include normal connection metadata and app or runtime information needed to deliver an update. Expo's policies govern its processing. OpenPod has no account, advertising SDK, or native analytics service enabled in the current release, and Sentry crash reporting is disabled. Earlier internal Android test builds included Expo Insights for app-launch telemetry. Current Android builds no longer include that service. A future release may change its services and this policy will be updated when needed.

Website tools and optional measurement

The playback and download calculators, RSS inspector, OPML inspector and knowledge quiz run in your browser. Pasted or uploaded XML is processed locally, without uploading it to OpenPod. Optional product measurement is off by default. The website offers a measurement choice; preview app builds offer privacy choices in Settings. When a service is configured and you consent, measurement can include page or guide views, store-link clicks, app actions, playback success or failure, and purchase attempts, together with a pseudonymous installation identifier, platform, environment and permitted campaign fields. Store-link clicks do not establish installations or purchases.

Configured services may use Firebase Analytics and Google Analytics as one reporting pipeline, PostHog for product events, Microsoft Clarity for consented session context, and Sentry for consented browser error diagnostics. Website event URLs exclude query strings and referrers, campaign values allow only short slug-like values, PostHog session recording is disabled, and local RSS and OPML inspector areas are masked from Clarity. These optional services do not require an OpenPod account. Turning measurement off stops new optional collection and clears queued website events; a request already sent over the network may finish. It does not cancel a subscription.

Preview purchases and anonymous identity

Subscription and lifetime access are being prepared and are not offered by this website. In a configured purchase-enabled preview, Apple or Google handles payment and RevenueCat verifies access. OpenPod uses a randomly issued installation identifier and a private device credential to connect consent and verified lifecycle events without an email-based account. RevenueCat and the stores keep their own purchase records. Restore purchases uses the relevant store account; automatic recovery across platforms is not promised.

The OpenPod analytics delivery buffer redacts purchase details when consent is absent. Withdrawal scrubs retained local analytics payloads. The preview configuration schedules bounded hourly cleanup for event records older than 30 days; deployment and cleanup monitoring are release prerequisites. Anonymous credentials remain available to preserve purchase identity. Contact us for privacy or deletion requests; deletion at external providers requires their supported procedures and does not erase store transaction records or cancel billing.

Sharing, sale, and retention

Moruk LLC does not sell your local library or listening data. OpenPod does not maintain a service-side account database for this app. Requests you make to podcast publishers, hosting providers, and Expo are sent to those providers to provide the requested content or update service, and those providers may retain logs under their own policies. Local data remains on your device until you remove it or clear the app's data.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when OpenPod's behavior or services change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Contact hi@moruk.co with privacy questions.
